The Adirondacks

ADIRONDACK PARK, N.Y. - All I can say is to check out this place on a map. This state-owned preserve, interspersed with private lands, is huge.
And it has a bunch of mountains. The Adirondack High Peaks include 46 (give or take, there's some question) mountains over 4,000 feet elevation.
I got most of the way up Giant Mountain (elevation 4,627, it's No. 12 on the list) before turning around due to time and body constraints. I've been spending too much time in the car, and I'm babying a sore calf.
Anyway, these are impressive mountains. New York - who'd a thunk it? This photo was taken about halfway up the Giant Mountain trail.
